What is Love?

No one can tell you what love is. All of us experience love differently, and those experiences combined with personal growth, shape our perception of it.

Of course, there are general definitions of Love.

According to Merriam-Webster, Love is “A quality of feeling of strong or constant affection for and dedication to another.”

According to Dictionary.com, Love is “a strong feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, such as for a parent, friend, or pet.”

Whereas another definition goes on to say, “a profoundly tender, passionate, affection, often mingled with sexual desire for another person.”

Love is not just one thing. It incorporates individual-based components. Some of these components being feelings, emotions, memories, history, and experiences. Love is the culmination of these components into a bonding force that prompts heartfelt gestures and behaviors.

At a point in, my life, I was unable to care for myself. I was sick, depressed, and stuck in the bed, day-after-day. It was, no-doubt, the lowest point in my life. However, it was during that time I felt an abundance of Love. It was in the moments that even after a long day at work, a bath was run, and I was slowly escorted into it. To be bathed, fed, and walked back to bed. It was the nights my head was in the toilet, but there was also a warm hand rubbing my back. It was the calls, the messages, the encouragement that “things will get better.” And “You’re going to make it through.” It was in those moments, I felt loved.

Prompt: “Can you Share a Positive Example of Where You’ve Felt Love”

Throughout history, there are many definitions of Love. Some biblical, some philosophical, and there is no wrong definition. Love is what you make it. Hopefully, as you continue to evolve, so will its definition to you. May it evolve into something healthy. Something you can give, not only to others, but most importantly, to yourself.
