As a beginner to consistent exercise, a routine is very important.
Start slowly and cautiously, to avoid injury, and consider things such as your overall health and fitness abilities.
Next, determine your need, whether it be to improve endurance, tone/build muscle, or lose weight.
Set a realistic goal that is specific to your need(s) and measurable. Your exercise routine should be geared towards reaching your goal.
It’s recommended to make exercise a scheduled task. Impromptu sessions are still encouraged, scheduling can improve overall commitment and consistency. Designating time for exercise also eliminates waiting to “feel like it” before getting started. You may never “feel like it.” It’s often our own “I don’t feel like it” attitudes that hinder success.
What you’ll need? Discipline and consistency. An exercise routine can be whatever you need it to be. Get creative and explore different activities.
Start slow, and build your routine. Include warm-up and cool-down activities, and other exercises that align with your goal.
Most importantly, remember to pace yourself and listen to your body.
- Beginner Fitness Goal: Walk or run one mile, at least twice per week
