Living in The South

What I love most about where I live are the seasons. And though, I don’t enjoy them all equally, they’ve taught me to embrace change.

There are four distinct season where I live, each with its own pros and cons.

Winter is my least favorite season. For one, it’s cold. For me, that alone is torture. In the winter, I want nothing more than to curl up in front of a fire with a cup of hot chocolate. But…it also has its pros. Holiday celebrations, heartwarming meals, family gatherings, and yes…even the festive tunes. Sometimes, with all the excitement Winter brings, I can momentarily forget the cold. Afterall, Spring is just around the corner.

Spring is a hopeful season. It’s still the top of the year, and it’s a season of growth and renewal. As the cold dissipates, once more, you feel the warmth on your skin. There is rain… and slowly the flowers and trees regain their color.

Summer, my personal favorite. Its heat, warming every inch of my being. Summer makes me feel alive. There are toes in the sand, road-trips, flights to the Caribbean, cookouts-in-the-backyard, ice cream, music-in-the-car-with-the-windows-down, lawn care, camps and games, outdoor exercise and play, fruity drinks by the pool, shorts, tees’s, and sandals.

Cons…There are mosquitoes.

However, as all things do, Summer comes to an end, and there is Fall.

I don’t dislike fall. It’s just not summer. I appreciate fall, as to me, it’s more transitional than any other season. There’s not an abundance of anything. But a slow dialling back and eventual dying off.

I love living in the South for its Seasons. They’ve made me adaptable to change.

I appreciate seasons of growth and fun. Yet, I can recognize seasons of transition. I can evolve through discomfort, knowing that Summer is surely on its way.

I got a wild-hair to do the daily prompt. Today’s is: “What do you love about where you live?”
